What we look for

What makes a strong podcast guest application?

  1. 01A nonfiction book published in the last year, or coming out in the next six months
  2. 02One clear, arguable idea, not a summary of everything in the book
  3. 03Real stories, research or cases behind that idea
  4. 04Something listeners can use the week they hear it

Always free for guests

Our booking studio is a separate, paid service for authors who want interviews on other podcasts. It has no effect on who appears on our own show.

Appearing on Author Talking is free. We never charge guests for an episode.

FAQ

Guest questions

01Does it cost anything to be a guest?

No. Guests never pay to appear on Author Talking and we don't sell episodes. We choose guests on the strength of the idea and how useful it will be to listeners.

02How long is an episode?

Recordings take about 50 minutes and episodes run 35 to 45 minutes after editing. We record remotely; a decent USB microphone and a quiet room are all you need.

03How soon will I hear back?

Within five working days, whether or not it's a fit. If the timing is wrong for this season we'll say so and keep your application on file.

04Can my publicist apply on my behalf?

Yes. Please put the author's name in the name field and the publicist's email so we reply to the right person.
