Watch out Chinese EVs, Honda e:NS2 and e:NP2 EV SUVs are shaping up to be a formidable rival

At the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show, Honda China showcased its second-generation e:N series of electric vehicles (EVs).

The models showcased were the e:NP2 and e:NS2, both in Prototype form. Dongfeng Honda will be responsible for manufacturing the e:NS2 while GAC Honda will manufacture the e:NP2.

Currently, Honda China’s EV offensive consists of the e:NS1 and e:NP1, both of which are based on the current Honda HR-V, albeit with a battery electric (BEV) system propelling the B-segment SUV.

As for the e:NP2 and e:NS2, Honda says that the models “combine the excellent utility of SUVs and sleek form of sedans”. Moreover, the side profile of both models has hints of the Zeekr 001 – a considerably more upmarket fastback EV developed by Geely.

According to Honda China, production of the second-generation e:N models are expected to commence later this year before reaching Chinese dealerships in early 2024.

The second-generation Honda e:N series of EVs is part of Honda’s product counter-offensive that will start in 2025. Honda is also planning to launch no less than 10 BEVs in China by 2027.

“We will strive to generate a business structure that generates earnings even in the EV era. The goal is a 7 percent return on sales in the near term and higher than that from 2030,” said Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe.
