Menstruating is a natural process that every female goes through. Therefore, it is important to educate yourself on what exactly menstruating is, why it happens and what to expect when you go through the cycle.
Premenstrual cycle
Symptoms of menstruating occur before the cycle even begins. Symptoms do not occur only when the cycle begins but certain symptoms can kick in at least a week before the cycle. For instance, one can start to feel bloated, have headaches, and experience moodiness and pain in the breast. This is known as premenstrual syndrome. These symptoms are a sign that your period is on the way.
Different for everyone
If you do not experience the same symptoms as your friend does this is not something you should panic about as different women experience e different symptoms. For some menstrual cramps can be very severe and for others, it could be very mild. However, if you have doubts as to why your pain is so severe then it is best to contact your obstetrician gynecologist.
Although the pain is different for everyone, seeing a gynecologist and making sure everything is okay is a good idea. It is not just the pain that you should consider but also the irregularities. If you are experiencing irregularities with your flow or if you do not get your period when you are supposed to and if this continues for a while, then contacting a gynecologist is a good idea.
Being comfortable
Having your period can be very uncomfortable especially the first few days therefore, wearing comfortable clothing is a good idea. Wearing tight and uncomfortable clothing will not aid in helping you feel more at ease.
Containing the flow
When you are on your period there are many options of ways to contain the flow of blood. If you find one method is too uncomfortable for you then there are other options you could try. For example, if you do not like wearing sanitary pads then you could try wearing tampons or menstrual underwear as these too are good options for containing the flow of blood.
Being aware of the different options is important and especially if you have certain conditions then you could ask your gynecologist for advice on which option would be best for you.
Be prepared
Being prepared before you get your period is a good idea. For example, marking the date your menstrual cycle is supposed to begin on a calendar is a good idea. This could remind you to carry tampons with you in your bag.
For example, if you are at work and you get your period before you could wear a tampon then this could result in the blood seeping through your underwear and standing your pants. To rectify this problem, it would be a good idea to have an extra pair of pants in your car. If not, you could find yourself being stuck at work with blood-stained trousers. Therefore, being prepared by carrying tampons and an extra pair of trousers with you can be very beneficial.
