To grasp the disparities between the traditional SAT and the Digital SAT, let’s compare their formats, durations, testing approaches, and scoring systems. The Digital SAT’s adaptive testing approach and quicker availability of results are notable advancements.

What is the SAT?

The SAT is a test that colleges use to see if you’re ready for college-level work. It’s important because it helps colleges decide who to accept. The Digital SAT is designed to be easier to take and give, more secure, and more relevant to students today.

Changes in the SAT:

The Digital SAT has some changes compared to the old paper test. It’s shorter, has different security measures, and can adjust to how well you’re doing as you take it.The Digital SAT test lasts for 2 hours and 14 minutes, including a 10-minute break. It consists of 98 questions.

In the Reading and Writing section, now combined, there are 54 multiple-choice questions within 64 minutes, split into 2 modules. These questions are based on short passages, sometimes including graphics. Modules 1 and 2 each have 27 questions for 32 minutes, and Module 2’s difficulty depends on Module 1 performance. After this section, there’s a 10-minute break.

The Math section lasts for 70 minutes and also has two modules. It contains 33 multiple-choice questions and 11 student-produced response questions, with all types intermixed. Both modules have 22 questions, lasting 35 minutes each. Again, Module 2’s difficulty depends on Module 1 performance. An important change is that calculators are allowed for the entire math section.

The average time per question for each section is:

  • Reading and Writing: 71 seconds
  • Math: 95 seconds

Technical Requirements for Digital SAT Exam at Home:

To take the Digital SAT at home, candidates need specific technical requirements, such as a laptop or tablet. Understanding these prerequisites ensures a smooth testing experience.Become familiar with the Digital SAT platform by practicing using its tools and features. Use highlighting and note-taking features to mark important information and jot down key ideas or formulas. Review your answers before submitting to check for errors.

While preparing, practice techniques for each question type. It’s better to master techniques through practice than to look for shortcuts.

TAKE FULL-LENGTH PRACTICE TESTS

The College Board provides full-length digital SAT tests to help students become accustomed to the digital format and improve their performance. Taking these practice tests helps manage time and become familiar with question types in each section. Practice both modules in each of the three papers provided on the College Board’s website.
