Reliable and durable: Changan BlueCore engine tech sets the record straight

Changan’s BlueCore engine technology was first launched in 2011 and soon after opened new possibilities for the brand in terms of its engine technology, offering customers a powerful, clean, and quiet driving experience.

Eight years later, Changan’s research and development (R&D) team would bring out the BlueCore NE platform to further improve its engine technology.

The BlueCore NE complies with the current emission and fuel consumption standards globally and results from four years of intensive collaboration among 200 engineers at the Changan Power Research Institute in China and the Changan UK R&D Center.

The BlueCore engine lineup is among China’s top 10 engines and powers the entire lineup of Changan vehicles available in the Philippines.

Turbocharged power

Changan’s engines may be small, with most coming in with a 1.5-liter form factor, but make no mistake, as these engines offer a similar output to a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter engine.

Aside from this, these engines were designed to give you at least 300 Nm per liter, giving you the torque you want when you need it from a small form factor.

These BlueCore engines are also clean and quiet as they meet the China 6 regulations for emissions and come with a 60.8dB idle noise that surpasses China’s National Noise First-Class Evaluation Standard.

Through hell and back

Changan’s engines also undergo stringent quality assurance testing by subjecting every engine to over four million kilometers (km) of test mileage, or 4,500 tests in 15 areas, including environment, strength, and safety.

The BlueCore engines were also exposed to the harshest temperatures, from 80 to -45 degrees Celsius, and from elevations of 0 to 4,700 meters.

The automaker also ran an endurance 100,000-km test on the Changan C35 Plus for the Philippine context. The then brand-new unit was run from North to South of the country under various road and weather conditions until it racked up a total mileage of 100,000 km (equivalent to five years of usage). That’s approximately 20,000 km a year and 54 km a day, or driving non-stop from Laoag City to Zamboanga City 29 and a half times.

During its punishing run, the unit was given the recommended PMS and it remained in peak roadworthy condition. Only its consumable parts, such as the brake pads, oil, tires, wiper blades, and drive belt, were changed.

Award-winning

In 2020 Changan’s BlueCore technology broke the Guinness World Record for the longest live video broadcasting. The engine was made to run non-stop for 259 hours at a sustained speed of 5,500 rpm and emerged without showing any signs of wear or tear, proving its reliability and stability.

Do these achievements by Changan’s BlueCore engines convince you of their reliability and durability?
