Stardew Valley is a great indie game that you can play for hours. You’ll be able to choose from a few farm maps. To help, we’ve ranked them.
Stardew Valley might look like a simple farming game, but it has a lot of things to do and a lot of little secrets. Even though farming isn’t the only thing you can do, it’s still a very important part of the game.
When you start a new game, you’ll have a few options for what kind of farm you want to live on after leaving the big city for a simpler life. There is a short description of each farm, but it’s not enough to really tell you what’s good and bad about each one. We’ve put them in order of how good they are in general to help you decide. But in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter which one you choose. In the end, they’re mostly about looks, so pick the one you like best!
Hilltop Farm – Overrated

---|---|---|---|---|
Mini-Quarry | Mining | 1,648 | 50% Odds | Player catches forest river fish. |
50% Odds | Player catches trash. |
The Hilltop Farm has some very interesting oddities. The most interesting thing about this farm is that it has a few spots that are higher than the rest of it. There are a few small steps leading up to these raised plateaus, and a single river runs through the whole farm. As you level up your Mining skill, rocks and ore will appear on one of these plateaus.
Even though it might seem like a good idea to have all that ore right there on the farm, it’s not all that helpful in the long run. Rocks and ore don’t spawn very quickly on that plateau, and by the time you find gold or iridium there, you’ve probably already found it in the mines and have a lot of it.
It might be better to use that space for crops, coops, or barns, but this layout is still pretty limited.
Wilderness Farm – Sounds Cool But Doesn’t Deliver
What Defines This Farm? | Related Skill(s) | Tillable Tiles | Fishing | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Monsters Spawn At Night | Combat | 2,131 | 35% Odds | Player catches lake fish. |
65% Odds | Player catches trash. |
The Wilderness Farm is different from other farms in two ways. The main thing that makes this farm different from the others is that monsters will start to appear on it when the sun goes down. This helps anyone who wants to level up their Combat skill or get more points for the Adventurer’s Guild.
The large cliff on one side and the lake in the middle of the farm make it hard to work with the space you have. Also, having to deal with monsters at night can make it hard to enjoy your farm at night and take up time that could be spent elsewhere.
Forest Farm – Easy Foraging But Not Much Room For Crops

Harvesting Hardwood And Seasonal Items | Foraging | 1,413 | 35% Odds | Player catches lake fish. |
65% Odds | Player catches trash. | |||
5% Odds | Player catches Woodskip. |
The Forest Farm map is a great choice for players who like to hunt and gather things out in the wilderness. This farm will give you hardwood stumps, and the clearing on the left side of the map might have different items for gathering.
Season | 25% Chance Of Spawning… |

Summer |

Fall |
|
Winter | None |
It has the fewest tiles that can be used to grow crops of any farm type, but there are 1,490 tiles that can be used to build farm buildings, which is something to think about.
Even though it has its good points, the Forest Farm map can be a bit limited for players who care more about growing crops than having animals, going fishing, or making Artisan Goods. Large areas of grass can’t be planted on, and if you haven’t upgraded your axe yet, the hardwood stumps can get in the way.
Riverland Farm – Underrated

Made Up Of A Series Of Islands | Fishing | 1,578 | 70% Odds | Player catches town river fish. |
30% Odds | Player catches forest river fish. |
A map that many Stardew Valley players tend to overlook is the Riverland Farm. It might not seem like a good idea to have rivers running through the whole farm, but it can be helpful for players who like to fish. Even though the land is broken up, this map still has 1,578 tillable tiles where crops can be grown and a lot of room for animals, tools, and silos.
Even though this map has a lot of rivers, it can be used for a lot of different things. This map might not be the best choice for people who only fish to finish the Community Center or who prefer to fish in other places. We all know that time is limited in Stardew Valley, and having to run all over those bridges to get to different places can really take up a lot of it.
Beach Farm – For The Pros

Mostly Made Of Sand, Where You Can’t Use Sprinklers | Foraging & Fishing | 2,700 | 15% Odds | Player catches Seaweed. |
5.1% Odds | Player catches Oyster, Coral, Mussel, or Cockle. | |||
52.73% Odds | Player catches ocean fish. | |||
27.17% Odds | Player catches trash. |
The 1.5 update added this farm layout, which is not for beginners or people who want an easy ride. The Beach Farm is all about the ocean and the tropics. It is mostly sand and grass, and it has a long coastline and an odd shape.
Crops can be grown, but sprinklers will not work. This is where things get really hard. This means that unless you use the space for something else, you’ll have to water most of your crops by hand.
The big open spaces, on the other hand, make it possible to build a lot of things and give animals room to graze. Also, helpful items will wash up on the beach in the form of supply crates. This is something that only this farm map has. But of all the Stardew Valley farm maps, this one is definitely the hardest to work with, so be ready if you choose it.
Standard Farm – Back To The Basics
What Defines This Farm? | Related Skill(s) | Tillable Tiles | Fishing | |
---|---|---|---|---|
The Most Available Space | Farming | 3,427 | 100% Odds | Player catches trash. |
In Stardew Valley, the Standard Farm is pretty much the “default” map. This map doesn’t have anything that makes it stand out from the other farms, but it has a huge number of tillable tiles: 3,472. It’s mostly just a big, flat piece of farmland that you can use however you want.
This map doesn’t have anything special about it, which may seem boring to some players but makes it easy to play for others. It means that you don’t have to worry about where to put anything, and you can arrange your farm however you want. But if you want a challenge in Stardew Valley, the Standard Farm map may not be the best choice because it doesn’t have any unique features.
The Standard Map is a good place to start if you’re new, and it’s also great if you like clean lines and a nice, blank square to work with.
Four Corners – Great for Multiplayer/A Bit of Everything

Divided Into Four Quadrants By Hills & Each Quadrant Has Its Own Niche | Farming & Mining & Fishing & Foraging | 2,952 | 50% Odds | Player catches forest pond fish. |
50% Odds | Player catches trash. |
The 1.4 update to Stardew Valley added the Four Corners map after Eggy Car game was already out. As the name suggests, this layout is split into four different parts, each of which is a large, open space. These areas are linked by paths that can be cleared with better tools. In the middle, there is a crossroad where you can also find the Greenhouse.
This layout is great for multiplayer games because it gives each player their own space. It’s also great for people who just want to set up their farm without having to think about where things go. The four areas are easy to divide into different parts. One for your plants, another for your animals, etc.
In addition, the farm features a little bit of everything, with a quarry where ore spawns in one corner, a pond for fishing in another, a grassy area with some stumps and weeds that drop mixed seeds in yet another, and a sizable farming area in yet another.
