As of April 2023, Perodua has increased its market share in Malaysia’s total new car sales from 39.1 percent in 2022 to 40.7 percent.
Perodua registered 18,874 units in April 2023, that’s 41.3 percent lower than the previous month but March’s sales record were an outlier as it was the final registration month to qualify for sales tax (SST) exemption for locally assembled (CKD) cars booked between June 2020 and June 2022.
March’s 32,179 units was the highest monthly sales ever recorded in Perodua’s 30-year history.
Total new car sales in Malaysia shrank 41 percent in April 2023, compared to the 24 percent growth in March 2023, due to the SST exemption cutoff month mentioned above, as well as the shorter working month in April due to Hari Raya holidays.
Year-to-date, Perodua’s cumulative sales for 2023 stands at 97,438 units, 12 percent higher than the same four-month period in 2022.
