Neta Malaysia plans to launch 2 more EVs here, including Neta U and Neta S

Over the weekend, Neta Malaysia introduced the country’s most affordable battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the form of the Neta V, priced at RM 99,800.

According to our colleagues over at Carlist.my, Neta Malaysia has two more EVs in the pipeline for Malaysia – the Neta U and Neta S.

Neta u – Corolla Cross-sized crossover with up to 610 km range

Starting with the Neta U, this is a Toyota Corolla Cross-sized crossover that’s offered with several output levels and range in China.

In China, Hozon Auto (the manufacturer of Neta-branded vehicles) offers 7 variants of the Neta U, spread across two choices of motors.

The first is a 163 PS, 210 Nm electric motor, while the other is a more potent 231 PS, 310 Nm motor.

Neta did not provide the battery capacity of the battery pack it uses in the 2023 model year Neta U, but in earlier model years of said SUV, it gets a circa 55-kWh battery pack for some variants, while other variants get a larger 70-kWh battery pack.

Under the CLTC test cycle, the Neta U is able to return 400 km for the smaller battery pack version, while the larger battery pack offers a range of up to 500 km under the same test cycle. Neta also offers the Neta U with a 610 km range, without providing the battery capacity.

DC fast charging is able to charge the Neta U from 30 percent state-of-charge (SoC) to 80 percent in 30 minutes. AC charging, on the other hand, takes between 7 to 8.5 hours to fully charge.

In terms of performance, the Neta U with 163 PS and 210 Nm completes the century sprint in 9.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 150 km/h. The more powerful Neta U completes the same century sprint in 7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 km/h.

Prices of the Neta U start from CNY 118,800 (~RM 76k) and tops out at CNY 165,800 (~RM 106k).

Neta S – This could be a poor man’s BMW i4

Apart from the Neta U, the next EV that Neta Malaysia wants to bring here is the Neta S.

Dimension-wise, it’s a bit hard to convey the size of the Neta S, as its dimensions put it squarely between the size of a traditional C-segment sedan and D-segment sedan, coming in at 4,800 mm long.

That said, its 2,920 mm long wheelbase would mean that the Neta S offers more rear legroom than the Honda Accord (2,830 mm), or even Toyota Camry (2,825 mm). The 2,920 mm long wheelbase is identical to the soon-to-launch BYD Seal.

A total of 10 variants of the Neta S are offered in China, with prices ranging from CNY 189,800 (~RM 121k) and tops out at CNY 341,800 (~RM 220k).

The Chinese market is spoilt by choices, as the Neta V can be had with a variety of powertrains, including a range extender electric vehicle (REEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV).

Without getting overly complicated, the BEV versions of the Neta S offers a range between 510 km to 715 km, depending on battery capacity, while the REEV variants offer a range of up to, wait for it, 1,160 km.

Setting the Neta S apart from its rivals like the BYD Seal is the inclusion of the tri-screen setup in the cabin. Apart from the customary digital instrument cluster and portrait-style infotainment display, the Neta S even includes a 12.3-inch display in front of the passenger.

According to Neta Malaysia, they plan to introduce the Neta U by Q2 2024 and the Neta S by 2025.

Between these two upcoming Neta models, which one are you looking forward to?
