Method of doing Maha Bheda Mudra:

  • Sit in the starting position with your legs extended in front.
  • Now sit in Uttan padasana like Mahamudra.
  • Keeping your back straight, relax the whole body.
  • Now apply Khechari Mudra and inhale deeply.
  • Leaning forward while exhaling.
  • Grab the right toe with both hands.
  • Now holding your breath out, first apply Jalandhara Bandha, then Uddiyana Bandha, and then Moola Bandha.
  • While moving your consciousness around the groin, abdomen, and Muladhara, mentally repeat the Vishuddhi chakra, and Manipura chakra to the Muladhara chakra.
  • Keep the concentration on each chakra for a moment or two.
  • Keep rotating the consciousness as long as you can comfortably hold your breath.
  • Now remove Moola Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha, and Jalandhara Bandha respectively.
  • Keeping your head fully elevated, inhale and come to the starting position.
  • In this way a cycle of Mahabheda Mudra took place.
  • Now exhale immediately and start the second chakra.
  • Similarly, by folding the left leg, do three cycles, and by turning the right leg do three cycles.
  • In the end, practice 3 rounds by spreading both legs.

 

Duration to perform Maha Bheda Mudra:

Initially, three chakras should be practiced with the left, right, and both legs. After a few months and years of practice, gradually the number of chakras can be increased to 12 chakras. Do not put too much stress on the lungs. At the end of each of the chakras when the consciousness returns to Muladhara. So keep counting the cycles mentally.

 

Time to make a difference:

The best time to practice Maha Bheda Mudra is early morning. This can be done when the stomach is completely empty. This can be done even before practicing meditation.

 

Limits to Discrimination:

  • Mahabheda mudra should be practiced only under the guidance of an experienced yoga teacher.
  • A person suffering from bloody piles and excessive constipation should not do it.
  • Even a person suffering from fissures should not do it.
  • Mahabheda mudra awakens energies very quickly if not practiced properly. So symptoms of overactivity may arise.
  • A person suffering from heart disease, peptic ulcer, or colitis should not practice Maha Bheda Mudra.
  • The patient with a hernia should also not do it.
  • Pregnant women should not practice it.
  • Young children should not practice Maha Bheda Mudra.
  • Persons suffering from high blood pressure, glaucoma, and increased intracranial pressure should not practice Maha Bheda Mudra.
