Jaguar Land Rover invests £15 billion on EV technology

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is undergoing a significant brand change as it prepares to reinvent itself for the future. The change starts with its production plants as the British automaker is shifting towards electric vehicle (EV) technology for its new generation of luxury SUVs. 

JLR has invested £15 billion to transition itself to the change to EV production by opening a new plant and upgrading another to meet future production demands for electrified vehicles.

An electrified future

The transition starts with JLR’s new Halewood plant in the United Kingdom. The new plant will be the new all-electric production facility utilizing the new medium-size SUV electrified modular architecture (EMA), which will now be pure-electric.

In addition to its Halewood plant, Jaguar Land Rover has revealed plans for its engine manufacturing center in Wolverhampton. While it currently produces internal combustion engines, it will soon produce electric drive units and battery packs for the brand’s next generation of electric vehicles. It will be renamed the Propulsion Manufacturing Centre. 

Aside from this, JLR confirmed that its stamping facilities used to make the bodywork for its vehicles would soon be expanded to play a key role in the company’s plans for an electric future by providing the bodywork for the brand’s next generation of EVs.

Not leaving anytime soon

JLR has also confirmed that it will invite applications for client orders for the modern luxury all-electric Range Rover later this year. It will be the first from the Range Rover family to be all-electric, which is expected to launch sometime in 2025 and will be built at its new Halewood plant. 

JLR is ready and committed to adapting the brand to modern times and modern needs as a world leader in luxury SUVs.
