Here’s One Glock 20 Accessory You Need to Have

One look at a Glock 20 and you might think you’re looking at any other Glock. But there’s a big difference between the G20, and say, another common Glock like a G19 or a G20.

The Glock 20 is chambered in 10mm Auto, a cartridge which, if you’re not currently familiar, delivers formidable firepower downrange, far in excess of cartridges like 9mm and .380.

Let’s put it this way: 10mm Auto produces between 10 and 12 ft-lbs of energy, depending on load data.

That doesn’t sound like a lot, until you realize that 9mm produces between 4 and 8. That means on the high end, 10mm can produce three times the felt recoil of 9mm.

That’s not nothing, and it’s the main reason that a compensator compatible with your handgun is just about the most valuable Glock 20 accessory out there.

Why a Compensator Is a Must

Some might not be fazed by the recoil produced by 10mm, but for others it’s a serious concern that can cause flinching, accelerated shooter fatigue, and a generally diminished enjoyment of shooting.

The classic wisdom is to shoot a gun in a caliber that’s appropriate for you, and if you’re dead set on 10mm, that means you need to reckon with the recoil.

But adding a compensator can change that. If you’re never considered it before, a compensator is a special muzzle device that alters how gasses are distributed at the muzzle, adjusting the felt force of recoil.

Some compensators for Glock pistols can reduce recoil by as much as 50%, without affecting shot power at all, which is welcome news for shooters of 10mm, whether they shoot a G20 or not.

Recoil aside, the biggest impact compensators have is on muzzle flip. With a compensator, you’ll experience far less muzzle jump, so your sights will stay trained more closely on target. What that means for you is you can shoot more confidently and make faster, more accurate follow up shots.

In other words, with a compensator for your Glock 20, you can have your cake and eat it too.

The other great thing is that some Glock 20 compensators don’t require adjustment to the platform, which means you can make the upgrade at home and you don’t need a gunsmith.
