Introduction-
Har ki Dun is located in Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. It is a long trek of 54 km and it is a moderate level trek. Har ki Dun trek is also called Staircase to Heaven which means the way to heaven. It is said that the Swargarohini-Yudhistor had taken the way to heaven from here. Hence it is one of the oldest trails in India.On the way to Har ki Dun trek there is a wide valley alongside with the Tons river. Har ki Dun trek starts from Taluka to Pauni which is around 12 km trek. Har ki Dun also has numerous bridges with stone slopes aside. The temperature of the weather does not remain constant as there is a versatility of the climate.
The nature of Har ki Dun-
Har ki Dun rivers have a lovely view and walk to the Har ki Dun valley with fascinating views of the Swargarohini group of peaks. There are many villages like Seema village which are situated on the side of garhwal peaks. The trekking route towards Har ki Dun is quite steep and dangerous because it is a narrow route.
There’s a mountain which completely covers the sun with its peak and below the mountain there flows the Supin river which is followed by the Taluka river. Most of the rivers flow from glaciers so it is quite cold. The valleys are also quite beautiful.
The villages in Har ki Dun today also follow all traditional ways of making food and other essentials like traditional ways of watermills which are collected from natural water from the rivers. The scenic beauty of this trek is spectacular and breathtaking which includes lush green grasslands with rice fields covering, numerous forests and waterfalls, not only these the snow covered mountains with white clouds in between and the glistening streams.
There are unique exotic mountain wildflowers all through the trek. These beautiful flowers astonish the mountain and monsoon treks and the mighty rock standing against the backdrop of the trek. The villages in Har ki dun are really out of technology but with that it is far more beautiful than any other developed city or town. The village in Har ki Dun trek is a 5000 years old village which is quite old.
The Har ki Dun place has a meaning because its name as “Har” or “Hari” means God and “Dun” means valley so apparently it is termed as Valley of God. The rocks are scattered everywhere and the meadows are quite steep to walk on. The grasslands are quite beautiful and the weather remains constant. As all say that Har ki Dun is peak but actually Har ki Dun is not a peak it is kind of a valley which is in between Swargarohini, Black peak and Anta peak.
The views from Kalkatti Dhar are quite amazing and breathtaking and it is also called a campsite and Kalkatti Dhar can be treated as half of the route of Har ki Dun. The snow covered road is called Dev Sudhaj which is quite mesmerising and it goes till the river Yamunotri. These places can be called as heaven for the trekkers.
The Swargarohini peaks can be seen from Har ki Dun at a very closed site which is a perfect beauty to the eyes. There is a historical belief behind Swargarohini which is related to Mahabharata. Swargarohini is also termed as The way to heaven.
The Swargarohini I, Swargarohini II, Swargarohini III are quite popular mountains for trekking and exploring and it is in Uttarakhand. From Kalkatti Dhar Har ki Dun peak is 6 km approximately. The trekking till Kalkatti Dhar is tough and can be dangerous but after
that it is quite easy and a moderate level trek.
There are also numerous small waterfalls on the way through Har ki Dun peak
which also add scenic beauty to nature. During winter the waterfalls turn into glaciers and
the trekking trails are also covered with snow which can be more slippery so one must be careful
while trekking and take proper equipment with trekking sticks. Lastly the Har ki Dun is truly a heaven
and one must visit and explore the trekking experience once in their life.
