GWM electrifies at Auto Shanghai 2023 with new energy vehicles and technologies to power the future

The Chinese automotive industry is the new superpower among the axis of carmakers and it was made crystal clear at the recent 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2023). Great Wall Motor (GWM) brought out the big guns in its arsenal, comprising a range of new energy vehicles (NEV) from its five major brands – Haval, TANK, ORA, POER, and WEY; placing themselves as a major force to be reckoned with in the xEV race.

Auto Shanghai 2023 was effectively a glimpse into the future of electrified mobility, as it showcased the latest and greatest in NEVs and innovative technologies that aren’t just limited to methods of propulsion for vehicles but sustainable point-to-point mobility solutions for everyone.

The fiery Haval Fierce Dragon Max.

GWM gathered over 300 media and distributors from more than 60 markets across multiple regions to immerse themselves in a future powered by their portfolio of intelligent NEVs and technologies during the exhibition.

Chinese automakers have been lightning-quick in embracing the transition towards NEVs and electrification. Parker Shi, Vice President and Head of International Markets at GWM was keen to emphasise the group’s swift adaptation and the significance of the exhibition in showcasing the company’s achievements, spearheaded by over 15 NEV models.

The TANK500.

First up from Haval was the all-new SUV dubbed Fierce Dragon MAX, making its global debut at the show. It boasts a revolutionary Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4WD) technology that complements the understated yet futuristic design concept.

A close second in terms of impact and the ‘wow’ factor is definitely the POER’s new pick-up truck, the POER Cyberspace 6×6. As the name suggests, it’s a 6-wheeled behemoth that would make the perfect zombie apocalypse vehicle.

A large high-performance hybrid pick-up with ‘only’ wheels was also revealed. The POER Shanhai PHEV/HEV pick-up and it’s massive grille displayed GWM’s commitment to NEV trucks.

With a name like TANK, it would’ve been foolish to think they were going to slip under the radar. The brand demonstrated the TANK400 PHEV and luxury off-road SUV TANK500 PHEV. This marked the world debut for both Tank models.

Wey released their first MPV model, the WEY Gaoshan PHEV, alongside a 6-seater electric SUV, Lanshan PHEV. Lastly, ORA completed the unveiling with 2 pure EVs.

Apart from all the new models that were unveiled, GWM displayed the innovative technologies behind their powertrains. This comprised the 3.0T V6 engine + 9HAT + P2 platform, Hi4, TANK platform and the proprietary 6×6 super off-road platform that underpinned the Cyberspace.

“GWM will rely on the forest ecosystem to accelerate technology iteration and product upgrading to provide global users with more high-quality and intelligent new energy products in line with their intelligent NEV’s philosophy of ‘Greener, Higher, and Safer’,” said Shi.
