Introducing Galaxy AI Expansion
Samsung recently unveiled its Galaxy S24 series along with a suite of integrated tools called Galaxy AI. The company had hinted that these features would eventually extend to other devices, and now more details have emerged.
Expansion to Other Devices
Scheduled for release in late March, an update to One UI 6.1 will introduce Galaxy AI to a range of devices including the Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, Tab S9, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra. Having had hands-on experience with the Galaxy S24 lineup, we can attest that Galaxy AI isn’t just a gimmick but genuinely practical.
Circle to Search Feature
Among the standout features of Galaxy AI is “Circle to Search,” which simplifies searching for items displayed on your screen. While reminiscent of Google Lens, this feature offers a more user-friendly implementation. By pressing and holding the home button or gesture area, users can select a specific area on the screen to initiate a search, with results displayed in a convenient panel. It’s worth noting that Circle to Search may not function for certain content that can’t be screenshot, such as DRM-protected videos or financial apps.
Live Translate Functionality
Another noteworthy feature is Live Translate, accessible within the Samsung Phone app. As the name implies, Live Translate facilitates real-time conversations between individuals speaking different languages, providing audio translations to both parties during calls. Impressively, this feature doesn’t require the recipient to own a Samsung device. During a demonstration, I conversed with a Samsung representative in English while he responded in Korean, demonstrating how Live Translate enables seamless communication despite language barriers, albeit with a slight delay due to translation processing.
Note Assist for Enhanced Note-Taking
Note Assist, integrated into the Samsung Notes app, offers the ability to organize and summarize notes, enhancing note-taking efficiency. This feature proves particularly handy for decluttering extensive notes.
Multimedia Enhancement with Galaxy AI
Galaxy AI extends its functionality to multimedia content as well. Users can resize objects within photos or generate new content swiftly. Similarly, in videos, Galaxy AI allows users to convert segments into slow motion with seamlessly generated intermediate frames, achieving a natural effect.
Performance Considerations
Given that the Samsung Galaxy S24 series boasts the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, it remains to be seen how Galaxy AI will perform on devices without this hardware upgrade.
