Under the skin of a Toyota Hiace is the same hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) powertrain as the Toyota Mirai sedan. Part of this entails two 700 MPa tanks that are capable of storing 5 kilogrammes of hydrogen for a driving range of approximately 400 km.

But beyond driving, the Express Diner bit of its name is another clue: it’s equipped with a mobile kitchen at the rear. There’s five induction cooktops, an oven, rice cooker, fridge, freezer, and three sinks with hot and cold water – all powered by the onboard fuel cell system.
