A 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor for the masses, the 2.0-litre Bi-turbodiesel Raptor to arrive on 8 June 2023

Good news folks, if the 3.0-litre twin-turbo Ford Ranger Raptor was a little over your budget, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) will be launching on 8 June 2023 a Ranger Raptor with the smaller 2.0-litre Bi-turbodiesel engine found in the Ranger Wildtrak to give Malaysians a Ranger Raptor for the masses.

The sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia announced that the decision was made based on the success of the previous-generation 2.0L Ranger Raptor and the new model with the smaller engine will appeal to a wider spectrum of buyers.

SDAC assures buyers that the 2.0-litre Ranger Raptor will carry the same bold exterior and interior styling, integrated technologies and advanced safety features as the 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 Ranger Raptor, as well as the enhanced capabilities and upgraded components that make it a road-legal Baja buggy. This should include the heavy-duty Fox suspension as well as the front and rear differentials.

Ford designed and engineered the Ranger Raptor to be the first factory-built performance truck for high-speed off-roading.

Testament to its capabilities was a Ranger Raptor completing the gruelling Score International Baja 1000 in Mexico, one of the toughest off-road endurance races in the world. The Raptor used in the race was taken off the same production line at the Thailand factory that builds all the Rangers and Raptors on the road.

It competed as the sole entrant in the stock mid-class category that’s designed to showcase the capability of stock road-legal trucks. The only modifications made to the truck were in the form of safety gear and everything else such as the engine, transmission, suspension and driveline were identical to any Raptor you buy from the showroom.

That 2.0-litre Bi-turbodiesel inline-four engine was introduced in the previous generation Ranger and powered the Raptor as well as the Ranger Wildtrak 4×4. In the current generation Ranger, you’ll find it under the hood of the Ranger Wildtrak 4×4 and the Ranger XLT Plus.

Power output in the current configuration stands at 207 PS and 500 Nm of torque, managed by a 10-speed automatic.

The 2.0-litre Bi-turbodiesel inline-4 from the Ranger Wildtrak that’s bound for the Ranger Raptor.

Although no figures were confirmed, expect the same numbers to carry over when the engine makes its way into the Ranger Raptor here.

For comparisons sake, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 Ranger Raptor makes a whopping 397 PS and 583 Nm of torque with the same 10-speed automatic attached to it.

In terms of pricing, SDAC didn’t divulge any details but seeing that the 3.0-litre V6 Raptor starts at RM 260,000 and the next priciest Ranger is the Wildtrak 4×4 at RM 169,000, a safe estimate should place the 2.0-litre Raptor around the RM 220,000 range or so.

In conjunction with its launch, the first 300 bookings of the Ranger Raptor Bi-turbodiesel 2.0L will come specially fitted with a Kenwood DRV-A700W dashcam system, which features a Wide-Quad HD (WQHD, 3.7MP) front camera and Full HD (FHD, 1080p) rear camera for dual-channel recording.

It’s equipped with a three-axis G-Sensor designed to detect a collision and has a wireless smartphone link for easy management of videos and settings. The built-in GPS receiver automatically records driving information and location tracking.

Those 300 bookings will also come with a RM 500 discount on one Ford Ranger Getaways package via a promo code once the vehicle has been delivered.

If you’re interested in getting up close and personal with this new Raptor variant, SDAC welcomes you for the official launch from 9 to 11 June 2023 at MRANTI Open Space, West Entrance (formerly known as Technology Park Malaysia), opposite Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

The location will provide a test-drive experience covering different terrains.

Additionally, the Raptor will also be going on tour with the Ford Experience Hub to the northern and southern regions of Peninsular Malaysia as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
