If you want to learn the tricks of drawing this shape, you’re in luck! This step-by-step guide to drawing a diamond makes creating this beautiful item a breeze!

How to Draw A Diamond

Step 1

For this tutorial on how to draw a diamond, using a ruler and a light pencil in addition to your regular drawing implements is very helpful.

Once you have a ruler available, accurately reference the reference image to replicate the shape we have in it.

Two long lines form the bottom, while the top has two small ones on the sides and an angular, rounded top.

We recommend using a light-colored pencil as it can be tricky to get this shape right! If the outline looks good, carefully trace it with a marker pen or pencil.

Step 2

Once the outline of your diamond design is complete, you can begin to draw the many sides of the diamond.

The top of the diamond has a flat top; that’s what we’re going to draw for this step.

To draw the top of the diamond, draw a line connecting the top corners with a line that mirrors the line at the top of the diamond shape.

Just like the topline, this is rounded but still a bit angular. However, if you have trouble with this line, make it a little rounder and the top line.

Step 3

In step 3 of our guide to drawing a diamond, we’ll add another angle to the design.

To do this, add another line similar to the one you drew for the diamond’s top.

This line runs from the bottom to the top corners you used for the previous step.

Again, you can always use a more rounded line if the fine corners in that line don’t work for you!

Step 4

For this step of your diamond drawing, we will use some straight lines to create the corner of the diamond right in front of us.

To do this, you should use your ruler to draw two lines that slant between the two lines near the tip of your diamond. The reference image will help you draw those lines!

Next, draw two long lines from these down, but move them inward to meet at the top of your diamond.

Step 5

We will draw the final lines in this step of our How to Draw a Diamond guide! Two more lines are drawn from the top of the diamond until it meets the first horizontal line.

They carefully draw two more where they touch this line but at a different angle, so they touch the flat top of the diamond.

Once you’ve drawn these lines, your diamond drawing is complete! Before proceeding to the last coloring step of this guide, you can draw any fun elements or additions you like.

Some ideas are to draw a ring under your diamond or draw laser lines around it to make it look like it’s being watched in a museum!

Step 6

It took a lot of angles, lines, and measurements to create your diamond drawing! You can relax a little for this final step, using some fun coloring to bring it to life.

You have many options on how to color it!

Diamonds come in all sorts of beautiful colors, and if you have a favorite diamond, you can make it look like this!

You can also experiment with different artistic mediums depending on the look you want for your diamond drawing.

Acrylic paints or colored pencils will give your diamond drawing a bright and striking look, while watercolors or colored pencils will give it a softer look. Once colored, you could use some glitter to give it a real sparkle!
