2023 Porsche 718 Spyder RS debuts with 493 PS flat-6 from 911 GT3

Porsche has launched the 718 Spyder RS, the most powerful version yet of its mid-engine roadster, thirty years after the presentation of the Boxster concept car.

The car features a high-revving naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3 Cup racing race and is available exclusively with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung transmission (PDK). The engine generates up to 493 hp and 488 Nm, revs to 9,000 rpm and combined with a short-ratio seven-speed PDK transmission, the 718 Spyder RS goes from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds.

The front end is almost identical to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and has a lightweight soft-top design. The chassis uses components from the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and the 718 Spyder and features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with sport calibration, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear limited slip differential, ball joint type suspension bearings, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels. The interior is designed to be performance-focused with sporty characteristics.

The new Porsche 718 Spyder RS is equipped with a range of safety and technology features to enhance the driving experience. Porsche Stability Management (PSM) helps to ensure stability by automatically applying the brakes to individual wheels in the event of oversteer or understeer. PSM can also be switched off completely for a purer driving experience.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM) includes a high-resolution touchscreen display that provides access to the car’s entertainment, navigation, and communication functions. The system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to use their smartphone apps on the car’s display.

Owners of the new 718 Spyder RS can use the Porsche Track Precision App to analyze their driving performance on the racetrack. The app records data such as lap times, speed, and lateral acceleration, and displays it on the car’s touchscreen display. The app can also be used to compare driving data with other drivers and to share data with friends and colleagues.

The new Porsche 718 Spyder RS is expected to go on sale in North America in the fall of 2023. Pricing will start at USD 127,300 (~RM 570k) excluding destination fees, taxes, and other charges. Customers can customize their car with a range of options and accessories, including different seat options, leather upholstery, and carbon-fiber trim.
