When is the Right Time to Embark on Your Kitchen Remodeling Journey

Moving into a New Home? 10 Kitchen Essentials to Get First!

If you’re moving places and starting from scratch, it can be hard to remember what you need– especially when it comes to things you need in the kitchen! But of course, as soon as you move, you won’t be able to get EVERYTHING needed in your kitchen, so start with only the essential ones.

Essential kitchen items are things that can help you whip up an easy and quick meal every day. But to help you out, you can use our list of essential kitchen items to get first when moving as a checklist of things to get:

1 – Something to cook your food

This can either be a microwave, a stove, an eclectic stove and so on. Make sure to have this to be able to heat some leftovers or whip up a simple meal. But if you already have a built-in stove at your new place, this is an item you can skip.

2 – Pots and pans

Now you’ll need something to cook your food with and those are pots and pans! You can go with a classic 8 to 10-inch frying pan and a 1.14QT saucepan. This will allow you to come up with tons of kinds of dishes, which may be fried, sauteed, boiled, turned into a stew and so much more!

Oh and before buying your pots and pans, make sure it’s compatible with your stove. For instance, if you own an induction cooker, make sure your pot and pans are induction-compatible.

3 – Eating utensils

Now it’s time to list down things you’ll be needing when eating. Again, since you’re only getting items you essentially need, you don’t need to start buying sets just yet. Also, consider getting microwave-safe plates and bowls for more convenience.

So for your first few days in your new home, make sure to have:

  • 2 to 3 plates.
  • 2 saucer dishes.
  • 2 cups.
  • A mug.
  • A normal-sized bowl.
  • A big bowl.
  • 2 to 3 spoons and forks.
  • Knives.

4 – Drinkable water

Don’t forget to get some drinking water when moving in! This is something a lot of people forget and end up buying litres of bottled water at the convenience store (which is simply just too costly and also not so eco-friendly.) If you already have a dispenser, you can skip this step, but if you don’t consider other options for drinking water.

A great item to consider for drinking water is water filter taps. This kitchen item can turn any tap water into fresh drinking water. What it does is it filters out all the impurities of tap water while keeping its beneficial properties!

This is ideal when moving because it’s easy to carry around, it doesn’t take up much space, is easy to install and is a much eco-friendly alternative!

5 – Storage containers

Another thing most people overlook when moving is storage containers! The chances of ordering in for your first couple of days are pretty high, so you might want to consider getting some storage containers for your leftovers!

Consider getting 2 pieces for every size of container you get. This is to ensure you have enough to store your food in.

6 – Food!

Of course, all this would be useless if you didn’t have food! For your first couple of ways, consider getting canned goods. This is to lessen the pressure of cooking compared to getting fresh produce and tarnishables.

For food consider getting protein, some healthy fat, vegetables and even some fruit. Tons of canned goodies offer all these such as canned tuna or eggs, canned peas, canned asparagus and even some canned pineapple, respectively.

After your first week or two, you can hit the grocery store and get actual food like meat, fish, fresh tomatoes, lettuce and so much more!

7 – Condiments

To add some life to your food, consider getting some condiments present in your kitchen! The top condiments to have are salt, pepper, vinegar, garlic powder, cinnamon, ginger and whatever your favourite condiments are!

8 – Pantry essentials

Now it’s time to fill up your pantry! To help you get only essential must-haves in your pantry, consider this rundown:

  • Baking powder.
  • Oil.
  • Flour.
  • Ketchup, Mayonnaise, Mustard and other sauces.
  • Sugar.

9 – Things to wash your dishes with!

Don’t forget to get essential items to wash your dishes with! This can include dishwashing soap, a sponge and a dish drying rack. You can even throw in some paper towels or a dish towel on the list to whip your dishes dry afterwards!

10 – Miscellaneous kitchen supplies

  • Cutting board.
  • Spatulas.
