How to Draw A Volcano
Step 1
Start by drawing a line that forms the volcano’s crater in the middle of the paper. This creates the highest part of the volcano.
Make sure the crater is drawn in the center by creating reference lines. Just draw an intersecting horizontal and vertical line on the paper and use it as a guide.
Where the two lines meet, mark where you should draw the crater.
When drawing the volcano, remove the reference lines to keep your drawing neat.
Step 2
Extend the lines of the crater by drawing more elongated linear figures with curved bottoms of different sizes.
If drawn correctly, it should look like a drip effect. This creates the lava flow that comes out of the crater or vent of the volcano.
Step 3
Repeat the previous step until the dripping effect covers the entire crater floor.
This complements the lava flowing out of the volcano’s crater.
Step 4
Draw a slightly curved diagonal line on each side below the lava flow. This forms the structure or body of the volcano.
Remember that both sides of the volcano must line up with the edges of the lava flow, as shown in the image above.
Step 5
Draw a slightly curved horizontal line just below the volcano.
This creates the terrain on which the volcano sits.
Step 6
Draw a continuous wavy line until an ash cloud forms in the center.
Remember that the ash cloud should come from the crater and go up into the sky.
Step 7
Repeat the previous step to complete the ash cloud texture. By this time, the ash plume escaping from the volcano’s crater should have fully formed.
It should look like a cloud floating midair over the volcano’s crater or vent if drawn correctly.
Step 8
Draw several teardrop shapes of different sizes surrounding the volcano crater. This creates the illusion of hot, molten lava spurting in different directions.
This also adds an artistic effect to your volcano drawing!
Step 9
Volcanoes and even mountains do not have a perfect pointed cone shape. Most of them have ridges and bumps on the surface, so that we will draw just that in this step.
Draw more straight lines at the base of the volcano. This creates the ridges that surround the base of the volcano.
This adds texture to your volcano drawing, making it look ten times more realistic!
