2024 Peugeot e-2008 facelift

The 2024 Peugeot 2008 facelift has just been revealed, showcasing the car’s new, more aggressive, stout look and more new features added to the model.

The subcompact crossover segment is a hot market, with many automakers entering the ring. It looks like Peugeot wants a more significant piece of that pie as it has recently updated its 2008 crossover model, in line with the brand’s new visual identity similar to what was seen on the 508.

As fierce as ever

The changes to the crossover begin with its front fascia as it receives claw-like triple vertical daytime running lights built into the bumper. It also gets a new glossy black insert, a redesigned bumper to give it a more muscular look, new lower intake accents, a new grille, and new full-LED headlights on the GT trim.

The overall side profile of the 2008 remains the same as its pre-facelifted version. Still, it receives a new set of 16 or 18-inch wheels and a revised rear quarter panel accent similar to what you would find in the previous rendition of the e2008, which Peugeot Philippines showcased at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show.

The French automaker has tweaked the “three-claw” LED taillights at the back, as it now uses three superimposed horizontal double slats. As a minor change, Peugeot now uses LED bulbs for the reverse and signal lights of the updated crossover. It also gets a reworked rear bumper which is noticeably thinner than its predecessor.

A revised interior

While the interior layout of the cabin remains essentially the same for the 2024 Peugeot 2008, the devil is in the details as the French automaker has made some subtle changes inside.

The crossover now gets a 10-inch infotainment system, an upgrade from the old 7-inch head unit. Aside from this, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster is available for the Allure or GT variants, with the GT model getting a 3D effect. Meanwhile, lower variants of the crossover get analog gauges instead.

Peugeot also has done something for the manual versions of the 2008 as it has revised the design of the shift knob.

More electric power

The major updates to the 2024 Peugeot 2008 begin with its e-2008 model. It now has more power and range as it receives the powerplant from the Peugeot e-308. Its electric motor now produces 156 horsepower, a 15% increase over the older model.

The battery pack capacity has been increased as it now holds 54kWh, with has bumped up the range of the e-2008 from 345 to 406 km according to the WLTP cycle. Suffice it to say, the 2024 e-2008 will not only look better but also perform better than the e-2008 sample that was previewed at the Manila International Auto Show last month.

Not your typical mild hybrid

The Peugeot crossover is set to receive a hybrid variant with a gasoline engine that’s good for 136 horsepower and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission incorporating an electric motor.

According to Peugeot,  the electric engine provides additional torque to the petrol engine at low revs during strong acceleration. During deceleration, the petrol engine cuts out, and the electric engine becomes a generator to recharge the 48V battery. Unlike typical mild hybrids that only power the car’s electricals when the engine is stopped, Peugeot’s version can drive solely with the electric engine in zero-emission mode, in the city over short distances, and when maneuvering.

The French brand claims this variant will reduce fuel consumption by as much as 15% versus its traditional gasoline-powered models and that owners can expect to drive that car in pure electric mode for more than 50% of the time while in the city.

For those who would prefer an internal combustion engine, Peugeot has retained the 3-cylinder,  1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 130 horsepower with an eight-speed automatic or 100 horsepower when paired to a six-speed manual gearbox.

If customers want a 4-cylinder motor, a 1.5-liter turbodiesel is still available, rated at 130 horsepower, and can only be had with an automatic gearbox.

Will it come to the Philippines?

The 2024 Peugeot 2008 is expected to go on sale in Europe later this year. As the 2008 units we receive in the Philippines are sourced from Malaysia, it will take more time for the facelifted model to arrive in the local market.
