10 Sunnah of Eid

10 Sunnah of Eid” Muslims around the world celebrate Eid, a joyous occasion that encourages thankfulness, joy, and introspection. In addition to the required ceremonies, there are several Sunnah practices that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised us to follow on this auspicious day. These Sunnah customs promote harmony and kindness within the community in addition to enhancing Eid’s spiritual significance. Here are ten Sunnah celebrations of Eid to consider:

  1. Early Rising and Purification: Start the day with an early rise, follow the Ghusl ritual of purification, and put on your best clothes. This captures the happiness and importance of the moment.
  2. Eat an odd number of dates before heading out for the Eid prayers. This is based on the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) custom of eating an odd number of dates before heading out for the prayers
  3. Salat al-Fajr in the Mosque: Attend the mosque to offer the Fajr (dawn) prayer in a group setting, showcasing Muslim unity and devotion.
  4. Taking Different Routes to and From the Mosque: Take one route to the location of the Eid prayer, and then take a different route back. This custom represents inclusivity and diversity in the community.
  5. Reciting the Takbirs: Say the Takbirs (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil hamd) both on the way to the site of Eid prayer and all morning on the day of Eid. This expresses the joy of the occasion and exalts Allah.
  6. Giving Sadaqat al-Fitr: In order to guarantee the purification of fasts and to help the less fortunate partake in the celebrations, give Sadaqat al-Fitr (charity given before Eid prayer) prior to performing the Eid prayer.
  7. Participate in the Eid prayer congregation: On this day, Muslims come together to offer unique prayers and supplications, reaffirming the Ummah’s (the Muslim community’s) unity.
  8. Congratulating One Another: Send sincere “Eid Mubarak” greetings to family, friends, and Muslim colleagues to promote a festive atmosphere and a sense of community.
  9. Visiting Friends and Family: In line with Islamic teachings, visit friends, family, and neighbours following the Eid prayer to strengthen social ties and spread joy.
  10. Keeping Up Excellent Behaviour: During the day, maintain excellent behaviour, abstaining from squabbles, backbiting, and any other actions that go against the spirit of Eid. Be kind, giving, and forgiving to everyone.

Muslims can participate in the festivities, deepen their spiritual experience, fortify community ties, and live out the teachings of Islam in their daily lives by observing these Sunnah acts of Eid celebration. May all believers experience blessings, happiness, and wisdom this Eid. Happy Eid!
